Men's Volleyball Opens Up CUNYAC Play With Four-Set Road Win At Lehman

Bronx, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team extended their win streak to four straight as the Bloodhounds opened up CUNYAC play with a 3-1 road triumph at Lehman on Thursday. 

John Jay moves to 6-1 on the season while handing the Lightning their first loss (5-1). 

Logan Ramos produced his second double-double of the season, finishing with 12 kills and 17 digs. Newcomer Adam Bainey added 11 kills. Attila Nerette registered six kills, two aces, two digs, and two blocks. Maxwell Law had a team-high 19 assists, while Jimmy Thinlay had 14 assists. 

Almir Pepic led Lehman with 19 kills, 10 digs, and two blocks. Emmanuel Cochran had eight kills with two blocks. Ray Rodriguez had 21 digs and two assists, while Christian Agudo had 35 assists in the match to go along with nine digs. 

Both teams opened the first set trading points before Bainey produced an ace, which made it 9-8 in favor of the Bloodhounds. Bainey notched the kill that propelled John Jay to a 23-17 lead, capping the 14-9 run by the Bloodhounds. An attack error by Alain Abreu Esteva gave the set point to the Bloodhounds. John Jay had 13 kills in the opening set to Lehman's six. 

In the second set, the Lightning raced out to a 7-3 lead after a kill from Pepic. The Bloodhounds scored ten of the next 16 points to tie the set at 13-13 following a kill from Ramos. Lehman increased their lead to 21-16 before Bainey recorded another kill. The home team evened the match at 1-1 after Emmanuel Oladosu posted the ace.

The third set opened with John Jay holding an 8-3 lead. Lehman evened the set at 15-15 following a block from Oladosu and Pepic. The two squads continued to trade points before the visitors had set point off a kill by Ramos. Abreu Esteva kept the home in the set before Nerette sealed the set with a kill. 

In the fourth set, both teams traded points before John Jay increased their lead to 13-8 as Nerette posted another kill with Evan Wandersee holding serve. Ramos added an ace that gave John Jay a 17-12 advantage as Lehman called for time. 

The Lightning staged a comeback as Pepic added another kill to his ledger, bringing Lehman to within three, 22-19. Ramos added a pair of kills. John Jay sealed the win via a kill by Nerette.

John Jay gears up for their third tri-match of the season as they head to Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, for the Bard Tri-Match as they will take on the University of Mount Saint Vincent at noon and the host at 2:00 p.m.
