Men's Volleyball Earns Tenth Win Of The Season, Blanks Saint Elizabeth On The Road

Morristown, NJ - The John Jay men's volleyball team picked up their tenth win of the season as the Bloodhounds blanked the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles, 3-0 (26-24; 25-20; 25-17).

Freshman Nick Fuentes paced the Bloodhounds, finishing with a team-best 16 kills, two aces, and five digs. Sophomore Micah Rossman tallied ten kills, an ace, and seven digs. Newcomer Omar Alaoui finished with seven kills and nine digs. Alex Bridgelall notched 22 assists and seven digs, while Jimmy Thinlay recorded 11 assists and four digs.

Jonathan Mundaray led the Eagles, finishing with nine kills and four digs. Carlos Saldana added seven kills. Kodi Peters recorded 11 digs, and teammate Diego Rondon concluded the match with 14 assists. 

The Bloodhounds opened the first set on a 5-1 run. Saint Elizabeth answered with four straight points to tie the set at 5-5. The Eagles took a 12-11 lead on a Saldana kill before Fuentes answered with a strong kill. SEU went ahead by two, 17-15, and again, 19-17, on a kill by Peters. The Bloodhounds evened the set at 23 before SEU got a kill from Kennedy Ibezim, giving the home team a 24-23 edge. Rossman finished the set with two kills, including the set winner. 

In the second set, the Eagles soared to a 7-3 lead, thanks to a kill from Peters. Trailing 9-7, John Jay rallied on a 9-3 run as Alaoui and Attila Nerette combined for the block, giving the Bloodhounds a 15-12 lead. Saint Elizabeth got to within one, 18-17, before John Jay closed out the set on a 7-3 run, taking a 2-0 lead in the match. 

In the third set, SEU went up 9-8 on another kill by Peters. John Jay rattled off five straight points, capped by a kill from Fuentes. The Bloodhounds sparked a 10-4 burst, going up 24-14 before the Eagles notched three straight points, keeping the set alive. Rondon mishit on the serve as the Bloodhounds sealed their tenth win of the season. 

Collectively, John Jay hit .202 for the match while limiting Saint Elizabeth to just .152

The Bloodhounds resume CUNYAC play on Saturday, March 1, as they will welcome Hunter and Brooklyn to The Doghouse.
