Men’s Basketball Completes Season Sweep Of Brooklyn, Largest Margin of Victory Since ’11-’12 Campaign

New York, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team was back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, scoring their second win of the season against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs.

The Bloodhounds improved to 9-2 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) standings with the victory, bouncing back after a tough mid-week tilt with Baruch, and holding at third place with three regular season games remaining.

Their 39-point margin of victory over the Bulldogs marks the largest over an opponent since the 2011-12 season.

Isaac Holmes led the way for the Bloodhounds in his fourth start of the season, setting a team-high mark for this campaign with seven made three-pointers and finishing with a game-high 29 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Holmes set the pace for the Bloodhounds for the game in the opening minutes. The graduate student opened the proceedings shooting 3-3 from the field with a pair of three-pointers and eight points.

He set off a 17-2 run in the opening minutes to cement the home side's lead.

Holmes nearly eclipsed his previous season best in scoring in just the first ten minutes, scoring 16 of John Jay's 31 points in the first quarter of regulation. Four different Bloodhounds combined for seven triples in that stretch.

Two more Bloodhounds hit from behind the arc in the next minute, as TJ Chisolm and Adrian Kopec put their side put John Jay up 37-11.

Holmes eclipsed his previous season best with 21 points in just 15:07 played against Brooklyn, hitting his fifth three pointer. He hit his sixth and final three-pointer with 2:51 to play in the first half to help the Bloodhounds hit the half-century mark, leading 50-19.

The Bloodhounds racked up 20 points off of turnovers in the first half, including back-to-back three-pointers by Jordan Evelyn off of steals for John Jay's final two field goals of the first half.

John Jay carried a 58-24 lead to halftime, hitting 14 three-pointers at a 58.3% success rate. Seven different Bloodhounds swished a triple in the first 20 minutes, led by Holmes with six of his 11 attempts.

Holmes picked right back up in the opening minute of the second half with his career-high seventh triple of the game.

Jeremiah Cardi got his name on the board in the initial stretch of the second half, hitting back-to-back shots for five points. Keyshawn Miller later pushed his way into double-digit scoring and helped the Bloodhound advantage to 45 points, 76-31, with 14:30 remaining in regulation.

Miller later give John Jay its largest lead of the game, 50 points, with 12:20 to play.

Brooklyn played its best stretch of the game in response, outscoring the home side, 15-6, and holding the Bloodhounds to just two field goals over the next six minutes. Muneer Ibrahem led the charge for the Bulldogs with 5 points in that run.

The Bloodhounds were sent to the free throw line four times in the final four minutes, hitting five of eight attempts. They closed out with a 99-60 win.

Their win marks the second time scoring 99 points this season and the third game this season scoring at least that many points.

TEAM LEADERS

Holmes's 29 points are his most in a game this season and second-most points in a single game throughout his career.

Miller finished with his fifth double-double of the season, ending the game with 13 points and 12 rebounds. He added nine rebounds and a season-high five steals.

Chisholm earned his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.

Cardi finished in double-digit scoring for the eighth time this season, totaling 10 points.

NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds play their final regular-season game at The Doghouse on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 8:00 p.m. The team will honor its seniors with a pre-game ceremony after the conclusion of the women's game beforehand.
