Men''s Volleyball Blanks CCNY

New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team earned their 15th win of the season, defeating the CCNY Beavers, 3-0 (25-15; 25-21; 25-12) on Tuesday evening.

The Bloodhounds were led by freshman Nick Fuentes, who registered a game-high 13 kills while also posting two digs and a block. Attila Nerette followed with seven kills and three blocks while Alex Bridgelall finished with five kills, five aces, and four digs.

Nana Boateng paced the Beavers with seven kills and five digs. Kyrylo Vysotskyy had 16 assists while Alex Ma also finished with five digs for CCNY.

In the first set, the Bloodhounds jumped out to a 6-0 lead, as Omar Alaoui served up three aces during the run. Following a kill from Nerette that made it 8-1, the Beavers got back in the set, trailing 13-8 after a kill from Gabriel Linus. John Jay used a 9-4 run to up their lead to 23-12 before the Beavers strung together three straight points, thanks to a pair of blocks from Mahmoud Tayeh and Boateng. The Bloodhounds secured the first set on two mishaps by the Beavers.

Both teams traded points for the majority of the second set. The Beavers started with an early 5-3 lead following a block from Brandon Green and Amir Nabiyev. John Jay answered back, scoring six of the next eight points in taking a 9-7 lead. The two teams would trade off points before the Bloodhounds started to pull away, upping their advantage to 19-15 on a kill from Fuentes. CCNY rallied with four straight points, tying the set at 19. The Beavers got a kill from Nabiyev and held a 21-20 lead before the Bloodhounds closed the set with five consecutive points, as Fuentes recorded the kill.

The third set favored the visitors as they jumped to an 8-2 lead before the Beavers closed the gap, 8-5, on two straight attack errors by the Bloodhounds. An 8-2 burst pushed the John Jay lead to 16-7 as Sebastian Rodriguez recorded the ace. CCNY continued to fight back, as Vystoskyy served up an ace that brought the Beavers to within six, 16-10. John Jay finished the match on a 9-2 run with Bridgelall serving up four aces for the last points of the match for the victorious Bloodhounds. 

The men's volleyball team will be back on the courts on Thursday, March 27 as they will travel to Hunter for 6:00 p.m. first-serve.
