Men's Volleyball Falls To Hunter

New York, NY - The John Jay College men's volleyball team claimed the first set in their CUNYAC tilt at Hunter but fell to the Hawks, 3-1 (25-22; 19-25; 17-25; 18-25) in four sets. 

Nick Fuentes led the way with 18 kills and added seven digs. Attila Nerette posted nine kills and four assisted blocks, while Alex Bridgelall added six kills and a team-best five assisted blocks. Jimmy Thinlay recorded 33 assists, while Eugene Villarruz posted a team-leading 14 digs. 

Kyle Foley finished with 13 kills and five digs for the Hawks, while teammate Ahmed Mohamed registered a double-double, finishing with 12 kills and 14 digs. Jon Pflueger notched nine kills, three aces, four assisted blocks, and four digs. Felipe Delgado added 39 assists and eight digs in the win for Hunter. 

The Bloodhounds trailed in the first set, 5-3, before staging a 9-3 run, taking a 12-8 lead. Hunter got back in the set with a 6-2 run of their own, tying the set at 14-14 thanks to an ace from Pflueger.

John Jay finished the set on an 11-8 burst, capped by a Fuentes kill that sealed the first set in favor of the Bloodhounds. John Jay hit a match-high .387 while limiting Hunter to just 0.088.

The Hawks jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the second set before two straight kills from Fuentes and an attack error gave John Jay a slim 5-4 advantage. A 10-5 burst from Hunter gave the Hawks a 14-10 lead. John Jay closed the gap to 16-14 following a kill from Fuentes, but the Hawks closed the set on a 9-5 run to even the match at 1-1. 

The Hawks jumped out to an early 4-2 lead thanks to a kill from Annes Deljanin. The visitors tied the set following Foley's attack error. A 9-4 ensued as the Hawks went ahead 13-8. John Jay narrowed the gap to 15-12 on a kill from Fuentes. Hunter closed out the set on a 10-5 run with a kill from Mohamed.

In the fourth set, the two teams traded points before Hunter went ahead 16-12 on a kill from Mohamed. John Jay got to within three, 18-15, but the Hawks closed the set on a 7-3 burst, thanks to a kill from Foley. 

The Bloodhounds close out the regular season on Tuesday, April 1 as they welcome York for Senior Night.
