Women's Volleyball Extends Win Streak To Five Straight With Home Triumph Over CCNY

New York, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team extended their win streak to five straight following a 3-0 sweep of the CCNY Beavers in CUNYAC play on Tuesday evening.

With the win, John Jay improves to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in league play while the Beavers fall to 1-8 and 0-2 in conference.

CUNYAC Player of the Week and recently minted AVCA Division III Player of the Week, Jadyn Orava, notched a double-double, leading the way with 14 kills and 10 digs while hitting .344 on the evening.


Freshman Madison Mullan added 10 kills, six aces, and four blocks. Classmate Adrienne Xiao finished with 18 assists while Caroline Guerney added 11 helpers.


The Bloodhounds hit .358 as a team, highlighted by a .571 percentage in the second set. The Bloodhounds finished with 38 kills, 13 aces, and five blocks.


CCNY was paced by Rosalynda Russo, who had 11 digs. Gia Skenderi finished with four kills.


The Beavers jumped out to a 5-1 lead, with Skenderi serving up an ace to close the run after Danuziaj Caixeta Palmer opened with back-to-back aces for the visitors.
The Bloodhounds responded with seven straight points as Mullan had five aces during the comeback, as John Jay led 8-5. The two teams traded points before the Bloodhounds closed out the set on a 6-2 run to take the first set 25-17.

The Bloodhounds created separation in the second set. Following a kill from Ivana Sanchez Zamora, John Jay staged a 16-3 burst, as Orava posted back-to-back kills around a Hailey Waugaman ace before Mullan notched the set-winning kill.

In the third set, both teams exchanged points with the visitors finding themselves trailing by three, 18-15, after rattling off three straight points.John Jay closed the match on a 7-2 spurt as Guerney set up match point with a left-handed ace before an attack error sealed the win.

The Bloodhounds hit the road for the next three matches, beginning on Thursday, September at Sarah Lawrence.

First serve is set for 6:00 pm.
