Women's Volleyball Stretches Win Streak To Seven Straight Following Sweep At Mount Saint Vincent

Riverdale, NY - The John Jay women's volleyball team upped its win streak to seven straight victories as the Bloodhounds swept the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins, 3-0 (25-15; 26-24; 25-13) at the Peter Jay Sharp Center.

John Jay moves to 10-2 overall on the season, while Mount Saint Vincent falters to 6-8.

Reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week, Jadyn Orava, led the team with 21 kills. Madison Mullan added nine kills while Hailey Waugaman finished with seven. Mullan served up six aces while Adrienne Xiao posted 36 assists. Waugaman led the club with seven digs.

Sienna Martin paced the Dolphins with seven kills while Jessica Broderick added seven digs.

John Jay hit a season-best .371, tallying 43 kills over the three sets, and limited the Dolphins to just a .080.

The Bloodhounds tied the set at 6-6 following a kill from Orava, which ignited a 12-3 burst, as the Bloodhounds led 18-9 following the kill from Mullan. The Dolphins rattled off three straight points before a 6-0 run put John Jay in position to win the first set. A service error from Carly Snyder sealed the first set for the visitors.

Both teams continued to trade points to commence the second set before the Bloodhounds went up by two five different times, the last coming off a kill from Orava that made it 19-17. Two straight kills from Mullan and Orava set up set point, but Mount Saint Vincent staged three consecutive points, capped by an ace from Snyder to tie it at 24-24. Xiao clinched the set as John Jay went ahead 2-0 following a 26-24 second-set triumph.

UMSV got on the board first in the third set before a 5-0 spurt got John Jay on the board, thanks to three aces from Mullan. The Dolphins narrowed the gap to 8-6 before the Bloodhounds used a 10-5 run to lead 18-11 after a kill from Theresa Schmitt. John Jay put the match away, scoring seven of the final eight points as Alex Overkamp clinched the game with a kill.

The Bloodhounds open October by closing out their three-match road trip when they take on FDU-Florham on October 2 at 6:00 p.m.
