Women’s Basketball Falls To Brooklyn On Wednesday Evening

New York, NY - The John Jay women's basketball team saw its season-high five-game win streak come to a halt on Wednesday evening, as the Bloodhounds fell to the Brooklyn College Bulldogs, 98-71, at The Doghouse. John Jay drops to 9-14 overall and 7-5 in CUNYAC play while the Bulldogs improve to 20-3 on the season and remain undefeated in league play at 12-0.

Three Bloodhounds finished in double-figures, led by Briana Minick, who poured in a team-best 17 points, capitalizing from the free-throw line, hitting a robust 11 of 13 from the charity stripe while recording six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block in 27 minutes of action. Junior forward Michaela Lattimore continued her double-double streak, reaching 16 straight games. The Morristown, NJ native had her 19th career double-double with 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting. She pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds, including 14 defensive boards. She matched Minick with four assists, swatted three shots, and added a steal. Freshman Bryan Bascones netted 12 points on 5 of 12 shooting from the field while adding five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks in 33 minutes of work.

All eight players contributed at least two points and two rebounds during the evening.

Brooklyn had five players score in double figures. Dior Dorsey and Brianna Jackson led with 19 points each. Jackson notched a double-double, finishing with 11 rebounds and four steals in 30 minutes. Anna Kitch tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Adunoluwa Akinduyi and Ameea Daniel scored 12 and 11 points.

Brooklyn opened with a 5-0 lead, but John Jay answered with consecutive baskets from Bascones. The momentum shifted as Brooklyn responded with a decisive 22-4 run over the next 5:30, limiting John Jay to just 1 of 7 shooting while they hit 8 of 14 from the field and 5 of 8 from three-point range. Jackson and Dorsey tallied 15 of Brooklyn's 22 points in that surge. John Jay ended the quarter scoring six of the last ten points, but Brooklyn led 33-14 at the break.

The Bloodhounds started the second quarter strong, going on a 13-8 run by converting 6 of 11 shots and increasing their defensive pressure. This brought the deficit down to ten, 48-38, after Essence Richardson's layup with 12 seconds left in the half, highlighting a key stretch where John Jay controlled play before halftime. The Bloodhounds shot 41.2 percent in the first 20 minutes. Both teams grabbed 29 rebounds, but John Jay led 22-14 in defensive boards during the first half.

Brooklyn began to pull away as Dorsey converted on a layup chance with 2:26 left in the third quarter, as the lead swelled to 73-53. Responding to the growing deficit, John Jay went on a 14-9 run, narrowing the gap to 15 after a Lattimore jumper. However, Brooklyn closed out the game with a defining 16-4 run to seal their undefeated record in league play.

For the game, both teams shot 35.0 percent from the field, with the Bloodhounds converting 24 of 69 while their counterparts connected on 36 of 103 shots. The Bulldogs hit on 14 of 44 from the outside (31.8 percent) while only hitting on 52.2 percent from the free-throw line (12 of 23).
