Men’s Volleyball Rolls Past Purchase In Straight Sets

New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team swept the visiting Purchase College Panthers, 3-0 (25-15; 25-22; 25-22).
 
The Bloodhounds improve to 5-3 on the year, winners of back-to-back matches and five of their last six, while Purchase falls to 1-7 on the year.

Nick Fuentes led the way with eight kills while Micah Rossman and Adam Bainey added seven and five kills, respectively. Rossman

Logan Ramos anchored the back line with 15 digs. Jimmy Thinlay and Maxwell Law finished with 17 and 14 assists, while Ramos chipped in four helpers.  

Jael Martinez led Purchase with eight kills. Joey Toscano had six digs while Martinez had five digs. Danny Kanner posted 23 assists.

The Panthers jumped out to a 4-1 lead before John Jay erupted on a 15-2 run with aces from Law and three from Rossman during the span to lead 16-7. John Jay sealed the set via a service error.

In the second set, the Bloodhounds jumped out to a 5-1 lead. John Jay doubled the lead to 12-6. The Panthers staged a 13-9 run to get to within two, 21-19, as Luca Valeriano registered the block. Joshua Acevedo posted a kill that established set point before Richie Walker committed a service error for the set win.

In the third set, John Jay went up 6-3 on a kill from Rossman. The Bloodhounds went up 17-11 on the strength of an 11-8 run. The visitors battled back, staging an 11-6 burst to get to within one, 23-22, before Rossman sealed the match with back-to-back kills.

John Jay finished the contest hitting .278 with 39 kills on 79 total attacks.

The Bloodhounds will look to continue their winning ways when they compete at the Ramapo Tri-Match on Saturday, as they take on the host Roadrunners and Sage College.
