New York, NY - The John Jay men's volleyball team earned its first road victory of the season and second straight win, besting the Yeshiva University Maccabees, 3-0 (25-12; 25-12, 25-18).
The Bloodhounds move to 2-2 on the season while the Maccabees dropped their season-opener.
Nick Fuentes led the way with six kills and six aces while adding three digs.
Adria Galve,
Joshua Acevedo, and
Brandon Roman each had three kills, with Galve adding four aces.
Logan Ramos finished with a team-high six digs and two assists.
Maxwell Law had a team-leading ten helpers while
Jimmy Thinlay had eight.
Mateusz Karpow paced Yeshiva with nine kills. Yoni Rubin posted 11 digs while Eli Waxman finished with 11 assists.
The Bloodhounds opened up the contest on a 6-1 run before staging a 15-8 run that saw the lead swell to 21-9. Fuentes had two straight aces to make it set point before a service error from Sean Felderman sealed the first set for the Bloodhounds.
John Jay carried that momentum into the second set, starting the set with a 7-1 run following kills from
Adam Bainey and Fuentes. An 11-7 burst doubled up the Bloodhounds' lead, 18-9, before the visitors put the finishing touches to the set, as newcomer
Quez Martin had back-to-back aces to win the second set.
Both teams traded points in the third set with Yeshiva taking their first lead of the contest, 10-9. A kill from Karpow made it 12-11 in favor of the Maccabees. John Jay closed out the match with a 13-6 run, as Fuentes sealed the match with a kill.
The Bloodhounds will remain on the road this weekend, heading to Riverdale, NY, where they will square off against host Mount Saint Vincent and Elmira.
