IMMACULATA, PA. — The John Jay men's volleyball team picked up its fourth-straight win, defeating Immaculata, 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-18) on Saturday afternoon.
The Bloodhounds move to 9-6 overall on the year while the Macs move to 2-4.
The Bloodhounds showcased contributions throughout the lineup, totaling 34 kills on .176 hitting, while adding seven service aces and six blocks in a disciplined performance that limited Immaculata to just .012 hitting as a team.
Brandon Roman paced the offense with a match-high 10 kills on .389 hitting, while freshman
Adria Galve and sophomore
Sebastian Rodriguez added seven and five kills, respectively. Behind the attack, setter
Jimmy Thinlay directed the offense with 11 assists, helping the Bloodhounds maintain rhythm throughout the match.
John Jay's defensive presence also played a key role in the victory, as the Bloodhounds held Immaculata to just 20 kills while forcing 19 errors across 83 attempts.
Immaculata was paced by Noah Zunski, who had seven kills and seven digs. Christian Lee had seven digs, four kills, two blocks for the home team.
The two teams were pitted in a 15-15 tie before the Bloodhounds used a 6-0 run to take a 21-15 advantage. Immaculata got back in the contest with a 5-2 burst before Roman clinched the point with a kill.
In the second set, Immaculata cruised to an 8-2 lead after Zunski posted a pair of aces. The home team increased the lead to 13-5 on an ace from Nate Bailey before John Jay regained its composure, sparking a 14-7 outburst to get to within one, 20-19, off an attack error from Zunski. The two clubs continued to trade points until the Bloodhounds closed it out for the set with a block from
Attila Nerette as John Jay earned a 26-24 win.
The Bloodhounds opened the third set with a 5-2 surge, capped by back-to-back kills from Roman and
Sebastian Rodriguez. Immaculata answered back with four straight points to take a 6-5 lead. The Bloodhounds capitalized on the momentum, as
Adria Galve recorded an ace to give the visitors a 16-11 lead. The Macs fought back, cutting the deficit to two, 16-14, but the Bloodhounds closed the game out on a 9-4 run as
Maxwell Law posted the match-sealing kill for the win.
John Jay returns home on Tuesday, March 10 as they will resume CUNYAC play against Medgar Evers at 6:00 p.m.
