Box Score The men's tennis team defeated City College (CCNY), 6-3, on Sunday afternoon at York College in Jamaica, NY. The Bloodhounds start the season with a 1-0 overall and conference record. The Beavers drop to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in CUNYAC.
The Bloodhounds led 2-1 after doubles play. The duo of freshman
Rafayel Rafayelyan and senior
Richard Mills won at number one, 8-4. The tandem of sophomore
Oscar Wu and junior
Carlos Negron followed that up with a 8-6 victory at the second spot.
In singles, Rafayelyan cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the top seed. Mills defeated CCNY's number two player, 7-6, 6-1. John Jay's other two wins came at #3 by Wu (7-5, 5-7, 10-7) and #6 by sophomore
Jowel Ahmed (6-3, 6-4).
The Bloodhounds face off against the College of Mount Saint Mary College (NY) on Tuesday, March 15, at 4:30 pm at the Wayne Indoor Tennis Club in Clifton, NJ.
