Box Score The men's basketball team lost to Alfred State College, 88-64, on Saturday afternoon in Alfred, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 1-1 on the season. The Pioneers improve to 2-2.
Sophomore
Hakeem Animashaun registered a season-high and game-high 32 points, shooting 8-for-11 from the floor and 16-for-22 from the free-throw line, and also had seven rebounds. Junior
Luciano Cruz-Fernandez recorded eight points, six boards, and a pair of steals. Freshman
Kyle LaGuardia came off the bench to add eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Senior
MiKing Richardson dished out a team-high five assists.
The Pioneers scored the first eight points of the game but layups by Richardson, Animashaun, and LaGuardia cut the deficit to two. Alfred State followed on a 10-2 run with 11:58 to go in the first half. Trailing 26-17, the Bloodhounds went on a 7-0 run courtesy of five points by Cruz-Fernandez. The Pioneers ended the half scoring the final six points to lead 39-30.
Alfred State quickly increased their lead to 11 but a three-pointer by junior
Jerome Petty cut it back down to eight. With the Bloodhounds trailing 57-45 with 10:22 remaining, the Pioneers broke open the game on an 11-0 run.
John Jay went 20-for-59 (33.9%) from the floor, 3-for-20 (15.0%) from behind the arc, 21-for-33 (63.6%) from the charity stripe.
