Box Score The men's basketball team rolled by Elmira College, 77-66, on Sunday afternoon in Elmira, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-1 on the season. The Soaring Eagles drop to 1-4 overall.

Sophomore
Hakeem Animashaun dropped a game-high 26 points (on 10-of-13 shooting and 6-for-10 from the free-throw line) and also picked up five rebounds and two steals. Sophomore
Doug Levy recorded a season-high 16 points, going 3-for-4 from behind the arc, and five boards. Junior
Luciano Cruz-Fernandez registered a season-high 12 points and two steals. Senior
MiKing Richardson added a team-high four assists and junior
Jerome Petty had eight points, four boards, and two assists off the bench.
Animashaun scored the game's first six points and Levy then sank a three to give John Jay an early 9-0 lead. With 13:49 left in the first half, Elmira cut the deficit to 12-10. With the Bloodhounds leading by two, Levy drained a three-pointer but the hosts cut the lead to 20-19 with 8:09 on the clock.
With John Jay up by one, Animashaun scored four straight points but an 8-0 run by the Soaring Eagles gave them their first lead of the game. Freshman
Matt Hudzik responded with a three-pointer to tie the game, 31-31 with 1:38 left in the half. Levy and Petty made back-to-back baskets to end the period and give the Bloodhounds a 37-33 advantage.
Animashaun's jumper ninety-five seconds into the second half increased the lead to 10. Elmira cut the deficit to seven but Animashaun made back-to-back layups to put John Jay up 47-36. With 15:26 left, the Soaring Eagles trimmed the lead to six but Levy responded with a three. The Bloodhounds' largest lead of the contest came at 5:50 when Richardson sank two free-throws as John Jay would hold on for its second win of the season.
"Today, our guys impressed us with their toughness and focus," Hyland added. "They arrived in Elmira prepared to be successful and executed our game plan very well."
John Jay finished 26-for-51 (51.0%) from the field, 6-for-16 (37.5%) from three, and 19-for-30 (63.3%) from the charity stripe.
