Men's Basketball Loses Lead Late, Falls To Hunter In Overtime, 102-94, On Saturday

New York, NY - The John Jay men's basketball team led by seven, 78-71, with 3:04 left in regulation, but the visiting Hunter College Hawks used an 11-4 run to tie the game at 82 and outscored the Bloodhounds, 20-12 in the extra session as John Jay fell 102-94 in overtime on Saturday. 
 
With the setback, John Jay falls to 4-16 overall on the season and 3-6 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) while Hunter improves to 7-13 and 4-5 in league action.
 
During today's contest, the John Jay men's basketball coaching staff of head coach Ryan Hyland, Associate Head Coach David Muchnick, Wade Kornegay, Sevag Ketenjian, Odis Gause, and Chris DiCintio participated in the annual Coaches vs Cancer Suits And Sneakers initiative to raise awareness for the lifesaving work of the American Cancer Society. 
 

 
 
Five Bloodhounds reached double-figures on the afternoon, led by Isaac Holmes, who netted a game-high 25 points on 9 of 13 shooting. The East Brunswick, NJ native grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists in his 42 minutes of play. 
 
Jayson Delgado hit for 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting while match Holmes with six rebounds in 39 minutes of action. 
 
Corey Jones Jr. chipped in 14 points in his 29 minutes of action. Jordan Evelyn and Adrian Kopec added 13 and 11 points, respectively. 
 
Three Hawks finished in double digits, led by Ryan Lau, who scored 22 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field with 12 of the 22 points coming from three-point range. 
 
Jeremy Montrose added 21 points in 28 minutes of play on 6 of 14 shooting while hitting on 3 of 8 from the outside. 
 
Cormac Reilly was the third Hawk in double-figures, concluding the contest with 12 points on an efficient 5 of 6 shooting display. 
 
The visitors jumped out to an early 8-0 lead before Kopec stopped the run with a mid-range jumper. 
 
A 16-6 offensive outburst by the visitors elevated the lead to 24-8 following a made three-pointer by Casey Meyers. 
 
The Bloodhounds were tenacious in staging a comeback, outscoring the Hawks, 35-20, over the final 8:40 of the first half in trailing by one, 44-43, as Jones Jr. accounted for 12 of the John Jay's 35 points during the run. 
 
John Jay converted on 12 of 14 from the field during that span including a resounding 5 of 6 from three-point range. 
 
John Jay carried that momentum into the second half, as the Bloodhounds netted 37 of the next 66 points in building an 80-73 lead with just 2:13 left to go in regulation. 
 
The Hawks answered back with a 9-2 run of their own over the final 1:41 in tying the game at 82, with Lau scoring the tying bucket. 
 
Hunter pulled away from the Bloodhounds in the extra session, outscoring John Jay, 20-12 in earning the eight-point victory. 
 
For the game, the Bloodhounds shot the ball well, converting on 51.7 percent from the field while limiting Hunter to just 37.4 percent. 
 
Free-throw played a pivotal role, with John Jay converting 28 of 4t5 to Hunter's 21 of 29 attempts. 
 
The Bloodhounds close out the two-game homestand on Tuesday, as they welcome Brooklyn College to the Doghouse for an 8:00 p.m. tipoff.
