Milton, NY - The John Jay women's cross country team produced their best finish of the season thus far, as the Bloodhounds placed fifth overall at Sunday's 15th Annual MSMC Knight Invite, hosted by Mount Saint Mary College at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome.
Pratt Institute took the team title with a total time of 2:33:39 (avg. time 30:43). Word of Life (2:36.42 | 31:20 avg time) placed second followed by Queens College (2:36.50 | 31:22 avg time).
The Bloodhounds, as team, clocked in at 2:52.26 (34:29 avg time), finishing just behind Dominican (NY), who placed fourth at 2:46.33 (33:18 avg time). John Jay placed second out of all Division III schools that competed and first among CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) participating schools.
Katherine Kerchner of the Merchant Marine Academy took home the individual crown, crossing the finish line in 25:19.2 (6:47.4 avg mile). Angelina Pusateri of Word of Life crossed the finish line with a time of 26:18.0 (7:03.2 avg mile) to place second while Rachel Mow of Queens College rounded out the top-three with a time of 26:25.3 (7:05.2 avg mile).
For the third straight week, newcomer
Morgan Boyle paced the Bloodhounds, as she was the top finisher for John Jay, finishing among the top-40 with a time of 33:55.3 (9:05.8 avg mile).
Fellow classmate
Jennifer Herrera and
Heavenly Evangelista were next, posting time of 34:17.0 (9:11.7 avg mile) and 34:23.3 (9:13.4 avg mile), respectively.
Other notable finishes by John Jay during Sunday's run included:
- Sophomore Eva Garcia and Kimberly Ramirez-Tepoz placing among the top-50 harriers at 34:51.8 (9:21.0 avg mile) and 34:58.8 (9:22.9 avg mile).
- Newcomer Kamola Temirova clocked in at 36:00.5 (9:39.4 avg mile) in 50th among the 117 runners that competed.
- Elda Chavarria finished with a time of 43:21.9 (11:37.8 avg mile).
John Jay is slated to run at the Queensborough Community College Invitational, which is set for Sunday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m.
