Bronx, NY - On a brisk morning at Van Cortlandt Park, the Bloodhounds came ready to run.
The final Sunday of October means the final cross-country race for the CUNY Athletic Conference, and the John Jay men's and women's teams looked to build on a strong finish in 2023.
Solidified by a pair of top-15 finishers, the Bloodhound men placed fifth in the team competition. Hunter College was named the 2024 team champions, with Baruch and Brooklyn rounding out the top three teams.
Newcomer
Lakdar Layachi posted a season-best 8k time in his CUNYAC Championship debut, pacing the Bloodhounds with a 31:47.5 finish. His team-best time earned him eleventh place.
Tony Echeverria joined Posada as a medalist in the top fifteen finishers. Echeverria's 32:40.0 time earned him fifteenth place.
The veteran runner for the Bloodhounds,
Alejandro Animas, was the third-best runner in Columbia blue and navy on Sunday, placing 20th overall with a 33:36.7 finish.
Louis Desario (37:37.2) and
Matthew Rodriguez (39:37.2) rounded out the field for the Bloodhounds.
Qualifying runners will advance to participate in the 2024 NCAA Division III Niagara Region XC Championships, held in Fredonia, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
