No. 4 Seed Men's Volleyball Advances To CUNYAC Semifinals; Blanks No. 5 Seed Lehman On Tuesday Evening

New York, NY - The No. 4 seed John Jay men's volleyball team advanced to the CUNYAC Semifinals after defeating the No. 5 seed, Lehman College, 3-0 (25-23; 25-19; 25-21) on Tuesday evening. 

The Bloodhounds move to 16-11 on the season, while the Lightning finish at 16-10. John Jay will move on to square off against No. 1 seed Baruch on Thursday, April 11.

Freshman Nick Fuentes registered a double-double in the victory, as the Bronx, NY native finished with a team-high 17 kills to go along with 11 digs. Micah Rossman added 11 kills, eight aces, and three digs in the win. Eugene Villarruz finished with a team-high 12 digs and three assists. 

Almir Pepic paced Lehman with a team-high ten kills. Emmanuel Cochran had nine kills and four digs. Ray Rodriguez had six kills and a team-leading 11 digs. Christian Agudo had 31 assists and nine digs for the visitors. 

Lehman jumped out to a 3-1 lead before the Bloodhounds answered with an 11-4 run of their own in taking a 12-7 lead on Rossman's third ace of the first set. John Jay held a five-point lead on two occasions, 16-11 and 18-13. The visitors outscored the Bloodhounds, 9-5, to find themselves within one, 23-22. A kill by Fuentes established set point but was answered by Alain Abreu Esteva. Rossman sealed the set with a kill. 

The two teams traded points for much of the second set. Fuentes recorded a kill that evened the score at 10-10. The Bloodhounds staged a 15-9 run over the remainder of the set as Rossman recorded back-to-back aces, and John Jay went ahead 2-0.

John Jay opened the third set by jumping out to a 4-2 lead after a kill from Rossman. 
The visitors used an 8-5 run to take an 11-9 lead after a kill from Rodriguez. The Bloodhounds responded with an 11-6 burst in, taking a 20-17 lead as Nerette recorded the kill.

Following a timeout, Fuentes posted a kill that gave the Bloodhounds a one-point lead, 22-21. Jaden Lamarre recorded a kill that put the Bloodhounds in a position to seal the match. Nerette lofted a serve that Levi Rosario misplayed for the ace as the Bloodhounds had match point in sight. 

A block by Maxwell Law and Jaden Lamarre sealed the match for John Jay as they advanced to their third straight semifinals under head coach Austin Voges
