Jadyn Orava Becomes Women's Volleyball First-Ever AVCA Division III Player of the Week Recipient

Lexington, KY | New York, NY - John Jay sophomore outside hitter Jadyn Orava made history on Tuesday afternoon, as Orava was named America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Player of the Week.

The Gilbert, AZ native becomes John Jay's first-ever recipient of the award, which dates back to 1993, as she is the second player in the history of the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) to earn the recognition, joining Lynette Rodriguez from Hunter, who earned the accolade on October 25, 1993.

Orava recently captured her third CUNYAC Women's Player of the Week honor after guiding the Bloodhounds to a 4-0 week where she recorded 49 kills, averaging 5.44 kills per set and hitting .482 in 83 total attacks.

The first-year Bloodhound served up 15 aces as well, with six of those coming in a road conference tilt at Medgar Evers before combining for nine more against Maritime and Ramapo, respectively.

Over the four-match span, Orava tallied 65.0 points, averaging 7.22 points per set while hitting for 24.5 points against Maritime and 20.0 against Ramapo.

Against the Privateers, Orava registered a double-double, finishing with 19 kills and 10 digs.

Orava and the Bloodhounds resume CUNYAC play tonight at home against CCNY before heading to Sarah Lawrence on Thursday.
