Cross Country Competes In First Meet Of 2025 Season At Purchase College Invitational

Purchase, NY - The John Jay cross country team competed in their first race of the 2025 season, competing at the Purchase College Invitational on Saturday morning.

On the women's side, the Bloodhounds placed 14th out of 15 schools that scored, averaging a team time of 23:09 while posting a total time of 1:55.46.

Coast Guard took home the team crown with an average time of 15:43 and a total time of 1:18.37 for a score of 15. Sarah Lawrence (71) and Hudson Valley CC (139) were the top-three schools. Baruch and Hunter rounded out the top programs in the meet.

Coast Guard swept through the meet, claiming the first 11 spots with Claire Semerod taking top honors with a time of 15:14.4.

Leading the way for the Bloodhounds on Saturday was Maria Belov, who clocked in with a time of 22:11.2 (8:55.5 average time) to finish 75th out of 136 harriers. For Belov, this marked her fastest time in all the meets she has competed in.

Skylah Nix was next, clocking in at 22:12.3, her best time in a 4K. Newcomer Alexa Guzman finished her first collegiate event with a time of 22:19.1

Julia Shakarova turned in a time of 24:30.7, followed by Julia Murray at 24:33.0. Newcomer Laisha Gomez produced a time of 24:38.3 in her first meet.

Kimberly Ramirez (24:50.0), Elda Chavarria (25:53.5), Shellbie Johnson (26:59.7), and Litzy Hernandez (31:02.6) rounded out the finishes for the Bloodhounds.

On the men's side, two Bloodhounds competed in the first race of the season as Tony Echeverria clocked in with a time of 24:41.0 while newcomer Luke Morton crossed the finish line in 33:10.8

The Bloodhounds will gear up for next week's race, the Jasper Fall XC Invite, which will be contested at Twins Ponds on the Farm in Montgomery, NY.
