Bronx, NY - The John Jay women's swimming team earned three medals on the opening day of the 2026 CUNYAC Swimming Championships, hosted by Lehman College at The APEX Pool.
The Bloodhounds scored 50 points to sit in third place after the opening day of competition. Hunter sits in first with 76 points, followed by Baruch at 64. Brooklyn (29), Lehman (16), and York (0) rounded out the scoring.
The women's 200Y Freestyle Relay team, composed of
Brianna Torres,
Aydan Damirova,
Luciana Uriarte, and
Victoria Hapsis, scored 12 points in the opening event, finishing with a new season-best time of 1:49.33. In the 500Y Freestyle,
Grace Driver and
Julia Murray competed for the Bloodhounds. Driver finished sixth, while Murray rounded out the top eight, adding four more points for the team.
Damirova placed second overall in the 200Y IM, posting a season-best 2:28.58. Uriarte lowered her season-best total to 2:42.64 while finishing fourth in the event.
Nutsa Prangishvili, swimming in her first CUNYAC Championship, rounded out the top eight swimmers and lowered her season time to 2:56.88.
In the 50Y Free, Hapsis and Torres continued John Jay's strong showing by placing fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 26.85 and 27.69. To close the day, the 400Y Medley Relay team of Hapsis, Damirova, Uriarte, and Torres clocked in a time of 4:38.96 to take third overall.
