Bronx, NY – For the first time since 2014, the John Jay men's cross country team closed out the 2023 regular season with a second-place finish at the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).
The Bloodhounds scored 73 points, finishing the 8K race with a total time of 2:36.34 (31:18 average time). Hunter won the team title with 36 points, finishing the meet in 2:28.30 (29:42 average time) while Brooklyn placed third in 2:45.39 (33:07 average time).
Hunter secured the first two individual spots, as Brian Guillermo won the individual title with a time of 27:55.2 (5:37.0 average mile) while his teammate, Mateo Penafiel, crossed the finish line with a time of 28:03.9 (5:38.7 average mile).
John Jay newcomer
Jack Treacher was the top finisher for the Bloodhounds, finishing third overall with a time of 28:49.1 (5:47.8 average mile).
Freshman
John Hernandez rounded out the top-five performers with a time of 29:32.9 (5:56.6 average mile) to cross the finish line in fifth.
With those performances, both Treacher and Hernandez have earned CUNYAC All-Star honors.
Alejandro Animas and
Traejon Tasher concluded the race in 20
th and 21
st, respectively, as Animas clocked in with a time of 32:23.6 (6:31.0 average time) while Tasher finished the race in 32:33.7 (6:33.0 average time). Veteran harrier
Joseph Valiente crossed the finish line in 33:14.8 (6:41.3 average mile) in finishing 24
th overall.
Other notable performances from Sunday's championship meet included
Louis DeSario, who finished 33
rd with a time of 35:54.9 (7:13.5 average mile) and
Matthew Rodriguez posting a finals time of 36:02.4 (7:15.0).
Dymy-Trov Guerrier turned in a time of 36:18.7 (7:18.2 average mile).
Oluwatosin Kupoluyi (41:40.1 | 8:22.9 average mile) and
Terrel Rowe (49:33.8 | 9:58.2 average mile) rounded out the finishes for the Bloodhounds.
Following the conclusion of the award ceremony, the Bloodhounds recognized their 2023 Senior Class.
Animas, Tasher, Valiente, Guerrier, Kupoluyi, and Rowe were honored as part of Senior Day following the race.
