Newark, NJ - The John Jay men's cross country team competed at the NJIT Highlander Invitational, held at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ on Saturday afternoon.

Among the 32 teams running in the 8K race on the afternoon, the Bloodhounds finished 26th, with a total time of 2:52.35 (average time of 34:31).

Army West Point took home the team title, scoring 34 points. Wilmington (Del) (145) and Caldwell (151) rounded out the top three schools.

Tilak Datta of Caldwell crossed the finish line first, with a time of 25:00.1. Army West Point's Jess Joe Augustine and Ben Sydell placed second and third, posting times of 25:30.9 and 25:33.2, respectively.

Leading the way for the Bloodhounds was Alejandro Animas, who turned in a season-best time of 31:21.6 in the 8K event.

Freshmen harriers Lakdar Layachi and Tony Echeverria were next with times of 32:16.4 and 32:21.9, respectively. Both runners set new personal-best with these times.

Louis DeSario and Matthew Rodriguez rounded out the finishes for John Jay as DeSario finished the race in 38:17.4 while Rodriguez was next at 38:18.1

John Jay will be back on the course Saturday, October 19 as they will compete at the St. Joseph's University - Long Island Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park.
