New York, NY - The John Jay women's swimming team was back in the pool on Wednesday evening on the East Side of Manhattan, facing off against CUNY Athletic Conference foe Hunter College.
Despite another impressive showing by sophomore
Miranda Perez, the Bloodhounds were unable to keep pace with the Hawks.
After scoring points in the opening two races, the Bloodhounds'
Victoria Hapsis nearly gave the visitors their first individual win of the meet. Hapsis clocked her 200y freestyle swim in 2:21.86, just shy of first place.
Her fellow sprint swimmer, Perez, posted John Jay's first win of the meet in the next race. Her 26.15 time was over one second and a half  faster than second place.
Katherine Sacgalindo took fourth place with a 39.62 finish.
In the sixth race of the evening,
Luciana Uriarte held off Hunter's Nayesha Krishna for a second-place finish in the 100y butterfly. Uriarte finished in 1:17.11.
Hapsis nearly scored another second-place finish in the 100y freestyle, taking third with a 1:03.21 time.
Grace Driver finished solidly in third place in the final distance race of the evening, taking a time of 7:25.98.
Perez clinched a second win in the meet in the final individual race, finishing first in the 100y breaststroke (1:14.77).
The John Jay team of
Rina Yamamoto, Uriarte, Hapsis, and Perez took second in the 200y freestyle relay; the final event of the evening.
NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds return to the pool on Friday, Dec. 6 at Maritime College. The meet in Throggs Neck is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
