Women's Swimming John Jay Sports Information

Women’s Swimming Concludes 2025-26 Season At 2026 Metropolitan Collegiate Championships; Placed Seventh Overall; Damirova Collects Two Medals

New Brunswick, NJ - For the second straight season, the John Jay women's swimming team competed at the Metropolitan Collegiate Championships, held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University from February 13 through February 15.

Overall, the Bloodhounds finished seventh with a total score of 460. Roberts Wesleyan University won the team title with a total score of 992, besting second-place Sarah Lawrence (981) and Gordon College (943).

Fellow CUNYAC members Baruch (909) and Hunter (891) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, followed by Mount Saint Mary (591). Brooklyn College (431) and Maritime (303).

Freshman Aydan Damirova, fresh off her All-Conference honors, paced the Bloodhounds with a silver and a bronze medal in the 100Y and 200Y Breaststroke. In the 100Y Breaststroke, she turned in a season and personal-best time of 1:12.70, and followed that up with a 2:43.58 in the 200Y Breaststroke. 
 


 






The Bloodhounds 200Y Freestyle Relay squad of Brianna Torres, Luciana Uriarte, Damirova, and Hapsis posted a time of 1:50.16 to place sixth overall.

In the 'C' Final of the 500Y Freestyle, Grace Driver posted a time of 6:39.55 to finish among the top-20 overall.
 


Uriarte competed in the 'B' Final of the 200Y IM, posting a time of 2:44.72 to place 12th overall.

Hapsis and Torres represented the Bloodhounds in the 'B' Final of the 50Y Freestyle, with Hapsis touching the wall in 26.87 while Torres clocked in at 27.60, as both swimmers placed among the top-15. For Torres, the time marked her season-best in the pool.

The 400Y Medley Relay squad of Torres/Uriarte/Damirova/Hapsis placed fifth overall with a season-best time of 4:36.81. The quartet continued to put forth impressive times; in the 200Y Medley Relay, they posted a season-best finals time of 2:03.83 to finish sixth overall.

Uriarte raced in the 100Y FLY, as the junior finished with her top time this season of 1:10.90 in the 'B' Final to place ninth overall.

Hapsis, Driver, Julia Murray, and Giuliana Atencio competed in the 200Y Free, with Hapsis turning in her best time this season at 2:11.19 in the 'B' Final to finish tenth overall. Driver matched Hapsis with a season-best performance, as the third-year swimmer placed 17th overall in the 'C' Final with a time of 2:26.99 while Murray was 19th in 2:33.22. Atencio recorded a time of 2:58.20.

Joining Damirova in the 100Y Breaststroke was senior Kira Englenton, who rounded out the top-20 with a time of 1:36.54, her best time this season.

Salem Williams swam in the 100Y Backstroke, posting a finals time of 1:25.42 in the 'C' Final to finish among the top-20 and posting a personal-best in the process.

The 800Y Freestyle Relay, made up of Torres, Damirova, Uriarte, and Hapsis, posted a fifth-place finish, clocking in at 9:17.43, a new season-best for Bloodhounds.

Driver was part of the field competing in the 1650 Freestyle, where the junior registered a finals time of 23:12.77, a season-best for Driver. Murray finished 14th overall with a time of 24:19.83.

Torres and Williams raced in the 100Y Free, with Torres finishing in 1:01.22 in the 'B' Final while Williams notched a time of 1:12.72.

The 400Y Freestyle Relay squad of Torres, Uriarte, Damirova, and Hapsis clocked in at 4:04.56 to place seventh overall.

The Bloodhounds, who finished third at this year's CUNYAC Championships, finished with a 6-7 overall record, the most wins under the direction of head coach Miguel Escalante. The six overall victories are tied for second in program history, with the 2014-15 squad that posted a 6-3 overall mark.

The most wins in program history are seven, set by the 2003-04 team, who finished the year at 7-3 and 5-1 in CUNYAC meets.
