Women's Cross Country Posts Eight Personal-Best Performances; Finish Sixth Out of 12 Teams At NJIT XC Invitational Open 5K

Newark, NJ - The John Jay women's cross country team turned in one of their best finishes of the 2025 season, as the Bloodhounds had eight harriers turn in personal bests at the 5K NJIT XC Invitational Open on Saturday.

Overall, John Jay finished sixth with a total score of 168, finishing a point behind the Skyline Conference's Farmingdale State (167) and ahead of Manhattanville (169). Drew was the top team finisher in this grouping with a score of 27, followed by Delaware TC (39) and Albany College of Pharmacy (141).

CCNY finished ahead of Farmingdale for fourth at 151. Brooklyn College was the third CUNYAC show, finishing 11th overall with a score of 282.


Hannah Phillips of USMAPS finished first overall with a time of 18:47.3, followed by Kate Rice of Drew at 18:54.7 and Kate Kershaw of Delaware TC at 19:35.6.


John Jay had two runners finish inside the top-50, led by Maria Belov, who finished with a time of 23:01.6 and in the process set a new personal-best in the 5K. 
Skylah Nix was next, posting a time of 23:38.3 to finish 40th overall.

Jennifer Herrera Vazquez and Alexa Guzman were the next to finish, clocking in with times of 24:01.4 and 24:22.8, respectively, which were personal bests for both Bloodhounds.

Julia Murray and Kimberly Ramirez were among the top-75 in the race, with Murray finishing in 29:50.8 while Ramirez-Tepoz checked in at 26:13.9. The duo also posted personal bests during Saturday's race.

Newcomer Laisha Gomez finished the race in 27:37.6, while Elda Chavarria turned in a time of 27:59.4. Both were the best times they have recorded in a 5K race in their Bloodhound careers.

Rounding out the eight personal bests was Shellbie Johnson, who finished in 28:24.9, while Litzy Hernandez produced a time of 35:34.0

The Bloodhounds will have two weeks to prepare for the 2025 CUNYAC Women's Cross Country Championship, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 26 at 10:30 a.m. from Van Cortlandt Park.
