Women's Swimming Falls In Season Opener To Ramapo And Hartwick

Mahwah, NJ - The John Jay women's swim team commenced the 2025-26 season on the road as they competed against Ramapo and Hartwick on Saturday. The Bloodhounds were defeated by the Roadrunners, 195-36, while falling to the Hawks, 198-36. 

In the first event of the season for John Jay, the quartet of Victoria Hapsis, newcomer Aydan Damirova, Luciana Uriarte, and Brianna Torres finished fourth in the 200Y Medley Relay with a time of 2:10.12. Newcomers Kira Englenton, Valerie Shnayderman, Nutsa Prangishvili, and Guiliana Atencio clocked in at 2:39.97. In the final event of the day, the 200Y Freestyle Relay, Torres, Damirova, Uriarte, and Hapsis placed fourth with a time of 1:55.51. Atencio, Ramos, Prangishvili, and Englenton turned in a time of 2:19.98.

Grace Driver placed fifth overall in the 1000Y Freestyle with a time of 14:52.09. It is her second-fastest time in the event (14:46 vs. William Paterson - December 10, 2024). 

Hapsis turned in a time of 2:22.37 in the 200Y Freestyle. 
In the 100Y Backstroke, Driver turned in a time of 1:24.55 while newcomer Salem Williams touched the wall in 1:30.12. Englenton and newcomer Jaylene Sepulveda posted times of 1:37.83 and 1:38.98, respectively. 

The Bloodhounds had four swimmers compete in the 100Y Breaststroke, with Damirova placing fourth overall with a time of 1:15.89. Torres finished eighth with a time of 1:28.45, which now stands as her second-fastest time in the event, surpassing her time of 1:28.49, she posted against Lehman (January 23, 2025). Shnayderman (1:39.95) and SariahLiz Ramos (1:47.74) rounded out the competitors in the field.

Hapsis turned in a top-five finish in the 50Y Freestyle, posting a time of 27.94. Williams, Prangishvili, and Englenton also competed in the event, turning in times of 33.40, 33.83, and 36.08, respectively. 

Torres tied Hartwick's Avery Sommo in the 100Y Freestyle with a time of 1:03.28 while Damirova placed ninth in 1:04.62. Atencio touched the wall in 1:21.63 while Sepulveda finished with a time of 1:38.86.

Driver took fifth overall in the 500Y Freestyle, posting a time of 7:13.49, which now stands as her third-fastest time in the event. In the 100Y Butterfly, Prangishvili notched a time of 1:21.43 while Ramos and Williams finished in 1:36.53 and 1:38.73, respectively. In the 200Y IM, Uriarte finished ninth with a time of 2:57.68.

The Bloodhounds will gear up for their first home meet of the season, as they will take on Hunter on November 6 at the John Jay Pool at 6:00 p.m.
