Women's Swimming Falls In Home & CUNYAC Opener To Hunter On Thursday Evening

New York, NY - For the first time this season, the John Jay women's swim team had a home meet at the John Jay Pool, opening CUNYAC play against the Hunter College Hawks, falling 71-24.

With the loss, the Bloodhounds fall to 0-3 while the Hawks move to 1-3.


John Jay opened the meet strong, as the quartet of Victoria Hapsis, Aydan Damirova, Luciana Uriarte, Brianna Torres, claimed the first points of the evening, touching the wall in 2:05.19, edging out Hunter's "A" relay squad of Grace
Valette, Kateryna Titarenko, Lian Winter, and Lily Bradshaw, who finished in 2:05.39.


The time by the Bloodhound foursome is a new season-best, surpassing their season-opener time of 2:10.12, set at the Ramapo Tri-Meet (Oct. 25).
Hunter evened the score after taking eight points in the 1000Y Freestyle. Grace Driver turned in a time of 14:36.48, trimming 15.61 off her time from the season opener. She also competed in the 500Y Free, turning in a time of 7:06.64.

Newcomer Giuliana Atencio turned in a time of 3:07.84 in the 200Y Free. Hapsis posted a time of 27.34 in the 50Y Freestyle, trimming .60 from the first meet en route to finishing first in the event. Kira Englenton posted a time of 34.28. Nutsa Prangishvili turned in a time of 3:14.67 in the 200Y IM. In the 100Y FLY, Uriarte finished with a time of 1:14.52. Torres turned in a time of 1:02.50 in the 100Y Free, lowering her time in the process from the season opener (1:03.28). 

Aydan Damirova cruised to a first-place finish in the 100Y Breaststroke, posting a top time of 1:14.80, shortening her time by .20.

In the final race of the night, the Bloodhounds were neck-and-neck with Hunter as the Hawks edged John Jay as Hapsis/Uriarte/Damirova/Torres finished at 1:53.45 to Hunter's 1:53.20.


The Bloodhounds will be back in the pool on November 13, as they will host Cedar Crest at 6:00 p.m.
